The Liberec Zoo is specialised in breeding of rare and endangered animal species. It is a part of the EEP, ESB and other programmes aimed at rescue of endangered species. The zoo is known for a rarity - white tigers. It is very interesting to watch elephants exercising, seal feeding and training or feeding of other animals, penguins, white tigers and lions, wolves, etc.
The only white tiger cubs (Panthera tigris) in the Czech Republic can be found at the Liberec Zoo! Our triplets Gaia, Sambur and Liam were born on 1st July 2012 to the female Surya Bára (*2008) and the male Paris (*2005) exactly ten years after the zoo’s very first litter of white cubs was bon. The cubs are lively, so you will be able to see them at play in their indoor enclosure or in their pen. You will also be able to see their mother, Surya Bára, who was given her second name after the double Olympic champion, Bára Špotáková. The father, Paris, who is of French origin, does not live in the family enclosure; he spends his time in his territory as he would in the wild. The Liberec Zoo has bred white tigers since 1994, when it imported the siblings Isabella and Columbus from Sweden. After acquiring an unrelated male, the zoo celebrated the birth of three cubs after eight years. White tigers are not albinos, but they merely suffer from a lack of basic colouring. Their main identifying features are their black and white stripes, their reddish tail and the same colouring on the pads of their paws.
The Zoo is situated in the picturesque valley near the centre of Liberec, very good reachable with the tram line (2 and 3).
