Museum of North Bohemia, Liberec

In 1895 the Board of Trustees of the Industrial Museum of North Bohemia chose the project of the Viennese architect Friedrich Ohmann for the construction of a new building. The construction took place between 1897-1898 and it was carried out by the Liberec company of Gustav and Ferdinand Miksch based on the realisation plans drawn up by the Berlin studio Griesbach & Dinklage. The dominant feature of the large building is the tower which imitates the tower of the old Liberec town hall demolished in 1892. The structure also features a replica of a classicist weaver house so typical for the Liberec region. Johann Liebieg, Sr. served as the President of the Museum's Board of Trustees and participated in the purchases of its collection in Vienna. Heinrich Liebieg left to the museum his collection of noble metals, the antiques from his Frankfurt villa and also a large amount of money designated for the expansion of museum's collections.

The exposition of applied arts describes the development of European applied arts from ancient times until the present. It is an unusually rich collection of glass, ceramics, china, textile, tapestry, furniture, woodcarving, clocks, old prints, jewellery, noble metals and other subject fields.

The natural history exposition depicts animate and inanimate nature of North Bohemia by displaying samples from the protected landscape areas of the Jizerské hory, České středohoří, Lužické hory, Labské pískovce and the Kokořínsko Region. In a brief summary, the archeological exposition explains the origins of life, development of the animal kingdom and development of life. The historical exposition clarifies significant milestones in the history of the Liberec Region from the 12th century until 1918.

A separate exhibition section is dedicated to the constructional and administrative development of the city of Liberec.
